On April 15, 2025, Beijing Medical Device Inspection and Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "Beijing Inspection Institute") officially handed over the testing report of the first domestically produced proton therapy device 360 ° rotation therapy system located in the Cancer Proton Center of Ruijin Hospital to Shanghai Aipuqiang Particle Equipment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Aipuqiang"). This marks the successful completion of the full chain testing and verification of China's first domestically produced proton 360 ° rotation therapy system, which is expected to be approved for registration and put into clinical use within the year. Key leaders and testing experts, including Xu Songyan, President of the Northern Inspection Institute, Wu Kechun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Meng Zhiping, Vice President, Liang Zhenshi, and Zheng Yifu, as well as Li Rui, Deputy General Manager of Aipuqiang Company, and their team, attended the report handover ceremony.
As one of the most advanced tumor radiotherapy technologies in the world, proton therapy, with its unique "Bragg peak" characteristic, can accurately concentrate radiation dose on the tumor target area. With the advantages of "precision, non invasiveness, and low side effects", it has become the preferred method for the treatment of complex and pediatric tumors. However, proton therapy equipment has the characteristics of large device scale, complex technology, and high difficulty in operation, maintenance, and clinical application. At present, the global proton therapy equipment market has long been monopolized by foreign manufacturers. In cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Institute of Advanced Research, and the Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, under the support of the new Shanghai War Project and the key research and development plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, Aipuqiang has successfully developed a 360 ° rotating beam treatment room integrating CBCT, pencil beam scanning and other functions. Since the start of the testing work in November 2024, the North Inspection Institute has established a special testing team, which lasted for 4 months and invested a total of 107 people to complete the full chain testing work including electromagnetic compatibility, electrical safety, and performance verification. The Aipuqiang 360 ° rotary therapy system that passed the test has a localization rate of over 90% for its core components, breaking the industry pattern of long-term dependence on imports. After being officially put into use, it will significantly reduce treatment costs and further reduce patient waiting time. This cooperation also provides a replicable demonstration sample for the collaborative innovation of medical device "industry university research testing and application", marking an important leap from "following" to "running in parallel" in China's journey of high-end medical equipment localization.
